Students and tutors from our English Tutoring and Cultural Exchange (ETCE) Program recently had their last cultural outing of 2014 in Insa-dong (a popular tourist area in Seoul). These outings, designed to allow for meaningful exchange between students and tutors about their cultures and help students improve their English skills in real-life scenarios, have truly been a highlight of the program.
For this get together, participants met to paint images from their cultures on ceramics. The students painted traditional patterns and scenery from their hometowns in North Korea, while the tutors (from South Korea, the U.S., Canada, and New Zealand) painted their hometowns, holiday customs, and their favorite winter activities. The students and tutors discussed what they were painting with each other so everyone had the opportunity to learn more about the cultures that were represented.
