Meet this spring’s Northeast Nomads! Alex, Will, and Amanda are working hard to bring the voices of the North Korean people to the Eastern United States and Canada. Over the course of three months, they will inspire thousands to join this movement of support for the North Korean people and help accelerate the change that they are already driving inside their country. They will also introduce our brand new initiative which will give everyone the opportunity to send a personal message to the North Korean people. Keep reading to get to know them a little better before they hit the road!
Alex is from the Philadelphia area. She graduated from Drexel University with a degree in history. Following her graduation, she taught English in South Korea for four years. It was there that she became interested in the North Korean issue, and fulfilled her lifelong dream of meeting panda bears (TWICE). Alex is excited to travel the Northeast as a Nomad, inspiring thousands to support the North Korean people.
Will is from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He recently graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in media and information. The first time he heard about LiNK was through Joo Yang’s AMA on Reddit. Before that, Will was captivated by the stories in Barbara Demick’s “Nothing to Envy” and Jang Jin-Sung’s “Dear Leader.” He wanted to turn that curiosity into change so he got on an airplane and flew to sunny Los Angeles where he joined a team of motivated individuals looking to do the same.
Whether animal or human alike, Amanda has always been passionate for the rights and freedom of others. Pursuing a degree in elementary education, her passion will translate into her work. She first discovered LiNK while in community college and was instantly drawn to the cause. When she’s back at home in New Jersey, she can be found practicing yoga, standing in the sunshine, and eating sushi with her boyfriend and family.
