How can I maintain the number of members involved in LiNK?

We get people to sign up at the beginning of the year, and maybe they come to the first event, but how do we keep them involved over the year and contributing to our activities?

Maintaining a steady number of members can be difficult. Here are some tips you can try:

Host “special” meetings: Organizing a couple of special meetings a year creates a unique experience for attracting new members. Explore your community for activities that you can use to create a different kind of club experience. Holiday themed meetings and events are also great ways to pick up interest!

Start a tradition or annual event that your campus will recognize. Some examples are a fashion show, banquet, benefit concert, or something as simple as Syracuse’s Orange Man or UT Austin’s Fried Oreo Fridays!

Food: Food is a great way to bring people together at a meeting or an event. Try to get funding from your school or ask local businesses for possible discounts or donations to provide food. If those options don’t work out too well, there are always other opportunities! Encourage members to bring in food, shop at wholesale markets for low prices, and consider having board members prepare shareable goods, such as cookies or cupcakes.

Make the members feel important: Create committees to allow members to work in different areas where they can contribute to the team and learn skills that will help when it is their turn to take up leadership positions. Committees focused on fundraising, PR, event planning, and media outreach give opportunities for people to learn and friendships to grow.

Establish a community: Build friendships with the members outside of meetings and fundraisers. Host social events where members feel like a community that is bonded by the same cause. Once the members feel personally connected to both the cause and the community, it will be much easier to keep them engaged.
