North Korean Refugee Stories: Meet Ji Sun
Ji Sun is a petite, wiry-framed girl with a big personality. She had a privileged childhood as the daughter of a successful doctor, but the North Korean government didn’t allow him to utilize his skills because of his personal problems.
Her family struggled to eat and to have the bare necessities. The injustice of the situation changed her outlook on the government and the country. A woman whom her father had cured frequented China and would share stories about China and talk about a huge and mysterious world “out there.” This piqued her interest, and the lady helped her escape from North Korea.
We found Ji Sun in China and learned that she wanted to go to South Korea so we provided an opportunity for her to escape. We successfully rescued her and she is now resettled in South Korea!
She hopes to go back to school and become a person of influence.
