CHANGING THE NARRATIVE

Mainstream media has defined North Korea as crazy Kims and nuclear weapons, which has created a barrier preventing ordinary people around the world from getting involved. We are changing this narrative: People over politics.

The more attention we bring to the North Korean people—both their challenges and their incredible potential—the faster they will be able to achieve their liberty. By changing perceptions, your Rescue Team will be changing history!

STEP 1 | CONNECT

Exchange info with Rescue Team members and guests.

Download the sign-up sheet to take attendance and get the contact information of new members.

STEP 2 | INTRODUCE YOURSELVES

Get to know your fellow Rescue Team members!

Have each member describe a time they had a first impression of someone or something that was wrong.

STEP 3 | LEARN

The way we define North Korea determines how we respond to it. Justin Wheeler, LiNK’s vice president, discusses the importance of shifting the conversation on North Korea from the politics to the people.

STEP 4 | DISCUSS & PLAN

Answer questions about North Korea, LiNK, and your Rescue Team

Oftentimes coming up with ways to fundraise can be easy, but changing the narrative can be a little harder to define. Brainstorm concrete ways your Rescue Team can change the narrative in your community.

Here’s one idea:

Table on campus, in your community, or at a local event. Before sharing with people, ask them to write down the FIRST thing that comes into their head when they think of North Korea on a piece of butcher paper or poster board. Then, after you’ve talked with them about North Korea and how the people are active agents of change, ask them to write down something they learned on another piece of butcher paper. You’ll have a visual display of how your Rescue Team has helped changed the narrative. Consider giving out a freebie or having a photobooth to encourage people to participate.
