Every single dollar raised goes to rescues?

Every single penny. You can read more about our financials and impact here.

When will my funds be used and how will I know?

You will receive an update on how YOUR funds have been used between 8 and 12 months after you do one of two things: Reach your goal -or- close your campaign page. Either of these actions will notify us that you are done fundraising and will begin the 8 - 12 month process for a rescue update.

Because Refugee Rescues is an ongoing program, we put donations to use as soon as they are needed, but for the security and safety of North Korean refugees and those working on the ground, rescue information is not revealed in real time.

If you reach a goal of $3,000+ - or - close your page with $3,000+, you will be updated about the individual that YOU helped reach freedom. The amount over $3,000 will be used for another rescue and you will be notified about ALL of your donations.

If you reach a goal of less than than $3,000 -or- close your page with less than $3,000 in donations, you will be updated collectively with the other fundraisers whose funds were used together for a rescue.

WHY & HOW do we Rescue?

Every year, thousands of North Koreans risk their lives to escape political persecution and economic hardship. If caught trying to escape or caught in China and sent back, they are at risk of extremely harsh punishments, including brutal beatings, forced labor, forced abortions, torture, and internment in a political prison camp. To make matters worse, while hiding in China, their illegal status forces them to work in invisible industries and leaves them vulnerable to exploitation by unscrupulous employers and sex traffickers, as they have no recourse to any authorities. Although many refugees try to escape, many do not have the resources or connections to get themselves out of China.

We rescue refugees without cost or condition and ensure their safety and dignity on the 3,000-mile journey to freedom.

WHY & HOW do we provide Resettlement Assistance?

We believe that North Korean refugees have huge potential to succeed in their new lives and many can even become agents of progress on this issue. Our Resettlement Assistance Program is designed to ease the adjustment process for newly-arriving North Korean refugees and to offer capacity-building services that help them become self-sustaining individuals. We accomplish this through personal development, career development, and financial services.
