HOW WE EMPOWER
Refugees face challenges, as they must quickly adapt to new societies that their previous lives in North Korea did not prepare them for.
HOW WE EMPOWER
We believe that North Korean refugees have huge potential to succeed in their new lives and many can even become agents of progress on this issue. Our Resettlement Assistance Program is designed to ease the adjustment process for newly-arriving North Korean refugees and to offer capacity-building services that help them become self-sustaining individuals. We accomplish this through personal development, career development, and financial services.
SERVICES WE PROVIDE FOR REFUGEES
We refer refugees to service providers in their local communities who can help meet their unique needs.
Translation & Interpretation
We provide over-the-phone interpretation, document translation, and referrals to local interpreters to assist US-based refugees as they learn to navigate their new society.
We host regular gatherings in South Korea for North Korean refugees to meet and connect.
English Language Tutoring
We pair refugees with tutors to support them in fulfilling their academic potential.
Mentorships & Networking
We introduce refugees to mentors who can contribute to their professional growth by sharing knowledge and career advice.
We provide study abroad opportunities and practical experience in support of refugees’ personal and professional development.
Housing & Basic Necessities
We provide refugees with temporary housing in the US and assistance with basic needs so they can build stable and secure lives while pursuing their dreams and working toward self-sufficiency.
We provide financial assistance to North Korean refugees to help them fulfill their academic potential.
WHAT REFUGEES HAVE SAID ABOUT OUR SUPPORT
My daughter and I met the high school students who had sold candy to fund our journey from China to South Korea. I was surprised and humbled to see how young yet passionate they were. I had been so lonely after coming to South Korea, but they lifted my spirits and helped me realize that a big network of people cared for me and my daughter, for which I’m so grateful.
- HAE JUNG
I received a scholarship from LiNK while I was in university, and they helped me get a coveted internship at an international bank. They also made it possible for me to study English in the US for a semester. After graduating earlier this year, I started my career at a Korean multinational company, and I recently became a monthly LiNK donor.
- YOUNG JOO
LiNK helps me pay rent so that I can focus on my studies full time. If I had to work and study full time, I would likely fail my classes. I am already a junior in college, and I want to become a journalist so that I can tell the world about the struggle of my people.
