Duk Jin came under suspicion from the North Korean secret police after helping a family member leave the country. Fearing he would be sent to a labor camp, he and his wife made the decision to escape.
His wife went to the border first to avoid raising suspicion. Some time later, Duk Jin began a 10-hour, 62-mile bike ride to meet her. Together, they waited for a chance to cross the Tumen River to China. Upon successfully reaching the other side, they connected with an acquaintance who helped them evade capture.
Duk Jin and his wife are now safe and awaiting resettlement in South Korea. Knowing that his journey is almost complete, he hopes that more North Koreans will find out about LiNK’s efforts in China and Southeast Asia. In his words, “LiNK must continue its work until the word ‘North Korean refugee’ no longer exists.”
Thank you for helping supply the funds for Duk Jin’s rescue. Your efforts have changed his life and have provided the opportunity for him to enjoy his new LIBERTY.
